Jacqui Stockdale

Jacqui Stockdale’s multi-disciplinary practice includes painting, photography, drawing, collage, installation and performance. Her work explores the dominant narratives of Australian folklore, mythology, and the transformative nature of ritual in society.

Raised in Benalla, Victoria, Stockdale graduated from Victorian College of the Arts in 1990 and Hobart Centre for the Arts in 1993. She has exhibited extensively in Australia and abroad and won the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize in 2012.

Exhibitions include, The Long Shot, Linden New art, St Kilda, Victoria; “Living Rooms” the Louvre, Paris in 2014; Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art, Magic Object, 2016 followed by a major survey exhibition, Familija, Benalla Art Gallery, Victoria; Todays/Tomorrow, Cape Town, South Africa; Alle Masquerade, Museum Villa Rot, Germany; Volta, Switzerland; Wonderworks, Hong Kong. She won the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize in 2012. Her work is held in permanent collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and the Watermill Foundation Collection, USA. The ABC TV documentary, ‘Heart’, directed by Amos Gebheardt, featuring hand-drawn animations exploring her relationship with the ‘muse’, won Best Documentary at the Melbourne International Film Festival, 2008.
