Introduction to Butoh - Weekend
Over the weekend, Yumi will introduce a series of classical Butoh exercises and its basic philosophy. Ideal for both experienced practitioners and those new to Butoh, the participants will be guided to explore:
Body presence (在り方)
Relationship of the body and space (空間)
Image exercise (模写) using animals and trees
Classic Butoh sequences through form (型）
Out of Form (型破り）
Creating/Devising (想像/創造 )
Through this year’s ButohOUT!’s theme, Out of Order, Yumi will draw on classical Butoh of the 70's incorporating repetitive, meditative and also very subversive expression.
Limited spaces are available due to the space.
This workshop is open to all levels of experience and artistic disciplines.
Participants also may choose to show/work on their work to be part of ButohOUT! 2023 ButohBAR - Out of Order as ButohOUT! Ensemble. This is an optional activity.
