Facilitated by local legend Japanese-Australian Butoh dancer, choreographer and a creator of Butoh Cabaret, Yumi Umiumare.

Over the 3 days, Yumi Umiumare will introduce the fundamental method, discipline, and philosophy of Butoh and her own method of Butoh Cabaret. The workshop will be facilitated through both physical and visual elements using materials and objects, exploring ‘Presence’, ‘Characterisation’ ‘Provocation’ and ‘Transformation’.

Through the artistic theme “Primal Colour”, this workshop creates platforms for participants to explore their authentic expressions through physical, visual and spatial experimentation.

This course is suitable for those who have not experienced Butoh and would like to give it a 'red hot go!’ Those with previous experience are also welcome as new perspectives can be found through repetition and deeper exploration.
